The Foundation to Educate Girls Globally (Educate Girls) has made history by becoming the first Indian organisation to receive the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award 2025, often called Asia’s Nobel Prize. The recognition highlights its relentless work in empowering girls and young women through education, helping them break cultural barriers, fight illiteracy, and unlock their potential.
Alongside Educate Girls, the 2025 award also honoured Shaahina Ali from the Maldives and Flaviano Antonio L. Villanueva from the Philippines for their contributions to public service.
About the Award
Established in 1957, the Ramon Magsaysay Award honours exceptional leadership and community service across Asia. Winners are announced every year on August 31, the birth anniversary of former Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay, and the formal ceremony takes place in Manila each November.
Significance of Educate Girls’ Win
This award underscores the global importance of girls’ education as a tool for social transformation. By challenging stereotypes and cultural norms, Educate Girls has enabled countless young women to gain literacy, life skills, and confidence to actively participate in society.
India’s Legacy at Magsaysay Awards
Educate Girls now joins the list of Indians who have previously received the honour, including Arvind Kejriwal, Ravish Kumar, Bezwada Wilson, and Sonam Wangchuk, reflecting India’s long-standing role in driving social reform and community leadership.
