The Government of India has released new guidelines for co-locating Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) with schools to strengthen Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE). This initiative, jointly launched by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Women & Child Development, aims to provide seamless integration of pre-school education with formal schooling, benefiting nearly 15 crore children.

Key Objectives

  • Smooth transition from Anganwadi to Grade 1
  • Improved retention and learning outcomes
  • Holistic child development through care, nutrition, and education
  • Community participation and resource sharing

Alignment with NEP 2020

The move supports the National Education Policy 2020 and the NIPUN Bharat Mission, which emphasise foundational literacy and numeracy. ECCE is integrated into the 5+3+3+4 education structure, with trained educators ensuring quality learning.

Technology & Innovation

The guidelines encourage digital tools like Jaadui Pitara, e-Jaadui Pitara, AI-based learning, and broadband connectivity in schools to enhance teaching in Indian languages and create child-friendly environments.

Implementation Focus

States and UTs will map AWCs with nearby schools and establish norms for effective integration. Coordination between education and women & child development departments is essential to overcome challenges and ensure nationwide success.
