Prime Minister of Mauritius, Navinchandra Ramgoolam, visited India on 11 September 2025, marking a major step in deepening bilateral relations. The visit saw the signing of seven MoUs across key areas, including science, space, oceanography, renewable energy, and governance.

Highlights of the agreements include:

  • Science & Technology collaboration for joint research and innovation.
  • Oceanography partnership for marine studies with CSIR-NIO.
  • Public Sector Reforms through Karmayogi Bharat’s e-learning and governance exchange.
  • Power Sector Cooperation, focusing on renewable energy integration.
  • Hydrography MoU renewal for maritime safety and domain awareness.
  • Space Agreement to set up a Telemetry, Tracking, and Telecommunication Station in Mauritius.
  • Small Development Projects (Phase II) for community infrastructure.

Additionally, IIT Madras and the University of Mauritius signed an MoU for academic exchange, while NTPC announced support for a 17.5 MW Floating Solar PV Project at Tamarind Falls.

This visit underscores India’s growing role in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) under its SAGAR initiative (Security and Growth for All in the Region), positioning Mauritius as a key maritime partner in sustainable development and regional security.
