From Misplaced Mobiles to Renewed Optimism: The Success of Telangana Police Force”

HYDERABAD, Telangana – Setting a national benchmark, Telangana Police proudly announces a 67.98% recovery rate of misplaced or stolen mobile devices, using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. In just 110 days, a total of 5,038 mobile devices have been recovered, exemplifying the state’s drive to promote public safety.

The spotlight shone on this initiative when a local journalist misplaced his phone in the SAIFABAD Division on IMax Theater Road. After reporting the incident to the police, the tracking mechanism of the CEIR portal pinpointed the phone, resulting in its swift recovery from a thief.

ACP, Sanjay Kumar, appreciate relentless efforts of the TS police. He credited the public’s active reporting for the recovery of a staggering 80% of mobile devices in a single month, amplifying the state’s trust in their police services.

Introduced by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in May 2023, the CEIR portal – a tool designed to curb mobile theft and counterfeit devices – found its first champion in Telangana. The state began piloting this venture in April 2023, preceding Karnataka which started in September 2022.

With its presence in all 780 police precincts of Telangana, DGP CID Mahesh M Bhagwat, the Nodal Officer, meticulously manages the portal. The most recent statistic highlights the recovery of 1,000 mobile devices in a short span of 16 days, each swiftly returned to the rightful owner.

Anjani Kumar, Telangana’s Director General of Police, commended Bhagwat and his team for their unwavering focus and backing of unit-level squads leading to this significant feat.

To amplify its reach and utility, the CEIR portal has been integrated with the Telangana State Police Citizen Portal. This merger permits residents to report lost devices digitally, eliminating the need for in-person visits to ‘MeeSeva’ centers or police stations.

Telangana’s ascendancy in mobile device recoveries underscores its pledge to adopt technology for the betterment of its populace, serving as a model for the country.
