The 7th National Sub-Junior (Under-17) Boxing Championship has begun in Nagpur, marking an important milestone in India’s youth sports calendar. The week-long tournament was inaugurated by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and has drawn enthusiastic participation from young boxers across the country.
Nearly 600 athletes—around 350 boys and 250 girls—are competing across 13 weight categories, supported by coaches, team managers, and officials. The championship provides a vital national platform for young talent to gain competitive exposure and demonstrate their skills at an early stage.
A major highlight of the event is its role in talent selection, as top performers will be chosen to represent India at the upcoming Asian Boxing Championship to be held in Tashkent. By linking grassroots competition with international opportunities, the championship strengthens India’s youth sports ecosystem and helps build a strong pipeline of future boxing champions.
