India Honors Dr. B.R. Ambedkar at UNESCO Headquarters on Constitution Day

On November 26, 2025, India marked Constitution Day with a historic international tribute — the unveiling of Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar’s bust at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. The ceremony celebrated Ambedkar’s enduring global influence as a champion of democracy, education, and social justice.

The unveiling was led by Vishal V Sharma, India’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to UNESCO, in the presence of diplomats, UNESCO officials, and the Indian diaspora. The event, organized by the Permanent Delegation of India to UNESCO, showcased India’s effort to share the legacy of its constitutional architect with the world.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the installation as a meaningful tribute, calling Dr. Ambedkar a “global icon of equality and justice.” He noted that Ambedkar’s ideas continue to guide global conversations on democratic values and inclusive development.

Ambassador Sharma emphasized how Ambedkar’s principles closely align with UNESCO’s mission of promoting education, human rights, and intercultural dialogue. The tribute reinforced the shared commitment of India and UNESCO toward strengthening democratic resilience and ensuring education for all.
