APEDA Launches BHARATI to Empower Agri-Food Startups and Boost Exports

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) launched BHARATI (Bharat’s Hub for Agritech, Resilience, Advancement and Incubation for Export Enablement) in 2025. The initiative aims to empower 100 agri-food and agri-tech startups, driving innovation and creating new opportunities in agricultural exports.

Key Highlights

  • Goal: Support India’s target of achieving $50 billion agri-food exports by 2030.
  • Focus Areas: GI-tagged products, organic foods, superfoods, AYUSH, and livestock-based exports.
  • Technologies: AI-based quality checks, blockchain traceability, IoT-enabled cold chains, and agri-fintech tools.
  • Solutions: Addresses challenges in product development, perishability, quality, packaging, and global compliance (SPS/TBT).
  • Support: Backed by Atmanirbhar Bharat, Start-Up India, Digital India, and Vocal for Local

Implementation

The pilot phase began in September 2025, with startups undergoing a three-month export acceleration programme. APEDA has partnered with state boards, IITs, NITs, and industry bodies to provide mentorship and global market access.

Future Outlook

BHARATI is expected to evolve into a scalable annual incubation programme, fostering continuous innovation, sustainable practices, and boosting India’s global agri-food competitiveness.
