Apna Ghar: Government Boosts Highway Rest Facilities for Truck Drivers

In a major step to improve road safety and trucker well-being, the Government of India launched the ‘Apna Ghar’ initiative, offering hygienic and comfortable rest facilities for truck drivers across national and state highways.

As of July 1, 2025, 368 ‘Apna Ghar’ units with over 4,600 beds have been established by Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) at fuel stations nationwide. These dormitory-style accommodations come with clean toilets, bathing areas, drinking water, and access to food or self-cooking spaces.

The initiative addresses the long-standing issue of driver fatigue and unsafe rest conditions. A mobile app allows truckers to locate units, book beds, and register, making the service more accessible. The growing usage and positive feedback underline its success.

This effort underscores the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas’s commitment to ensuring the safety, dignity, and efficiency of India’s truck drivers — the backbone of the country’s supply chain.
