The Central Government has appointed three senior advocates as Additional Solicitors General (ASGs) to represent the Union of India before the Supreme Court, strengthening its legal representation at the apex level. The appointments were formally notified on 22 December 2025.
The newly appointed ASGs are Senior Advocate Davinder Pal Singh, Senior Advocate Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar, and Senior Advocate Anil Kaushik. Among them, Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar is a former Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament with extensive experience in constitutional and civil law matters before the Supreme Court.
According to the notification, the appointments will be valid for a tenure of three years or until further orders, ensuring continuity while allowing flexibility in the government’s legal team. The move comes at a time when the Union government is involved in an increasing number of complex and high-stakes cases related to legislation, policy, and constitutional interpretation.
Additional Solicitors General assist the Attorney General and Solicitor General of India by arguing cases, advising ministries, shaping legal strategies, and representing the government’s position in court. In constitutional matters, ASGs play a key role in presenting the executive’s perspective within the framework of the Constitution.
The appointment of experienced senior advocates is expected to enhance the quality of legal advocacy, support efficient case disposal, and strengthen governance through sound judicial engagement.
