Chennai will host the 5th Coast Guard Global Summit (CGGS) in 2027, marking the 50th anniversary of the Indian Coast Guard. The decision was taken unanimously at the 4th CGGS held in Rome in 2025, attended by 115 countries and international organisations.
The biennial summit serves as a key platform for global maritime cooperation, focusing on security, safety, and environmental protection. The 2027 edition will include an International Coast Guard Fleet Review and a World Coast Guard Seminar, showcasing international solidarity in addressing maritime challenges.
Key themes of the summit will cover maritime search and rescue, marine pollution response, countering transnational maritime crimes, information sharing, capacity building, training, and technical assistance.
This global gathering will not only enhance international cooperation but also highlight India’s growing role in maritime security.
