Hyderabad, January 26, 2025: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy delivered a sharp critique of the central government’s policies during his visit to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University in Jubilee Hills. The CM unveiled a 15-foot bronze statue of Bharat Ratna Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and inaugurated the university’s new skill development building, promising unwavering support for Telangana’s higher education sector.

During the event, CM Revanth Reddy expressed strong opposition to the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) recent appointment of a Vice-Chancellor, calling it a direct attack on the Constitution and the autonomy of state institutions. He warned that this could lead to the erosion of state rights, stating, “If this trend continues, the current Vice-Chancellor might be the last one from Telangana. Students and professors must prepare to resist such moves.”
The Chief Minister emphasized the need for transparency in central government policies, advocating for discussions in public forums. “This is not just about power. It’s about protecting the state’s rights and ensuring opportunities for our students,” he said. Revanth Reddy further urged intellectuals, professors, and students to stay vigilant against decisions that could undermine Telangana’s autonomy.
Key Initiatives Announced
Revanth Reddy reassured the university’s staff and students of the state government’s commitment to education. He promised to support the institution to the fullest extent, highlighting the importance of empowering students with opportunities. “Students are our first priority, and their education must not be compromised,” he said.
The Chief Minister also announced plans to enhance university infrastructure and address faculty shortages across Telangana. He stressed the need for collaboration among southern states and revealed his intention to discuss central government policies with the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.

A Vision for Empowerment
In addition to his criticism of the central government, Revanth Reddy’s speech underscored his vision for education as a tool for empowerment. He highlighted the role of Dr. Ambedkar’s philosophy in ensuring social equality and justice, promising to uphold these principles in Telangana’s policies.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including university officials, government representatives, and academicians. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani expressed gratitude for the state government’s support and outlined plans for the university’s future, including the establishment of a Digital Resource Center and a state-of-the-art skill training institute to equip rural youth with modern skills.
The ceremony not only celebrated the unveiling of the Ambedkar statue but also marked a critical step toward safeguarding Telangana’s educational and constitutional rights amidst growing challenges from the central government.
