Dhordo village in Kutch, Gujarat — globally recognised by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation as the “Best Tourism Village” — has now become fully solar-powered. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate this achievement on 20 September during the Samudra Se Samriddhi event in Bhavnagar.
Under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, all 81 households in Dhordo have been equipped with rooftop solar panels, generating a combined 177 kilowatts and nearly 2.95 lakh units of power annually. Each family is expected to save around ₹16,000 per year, while surplus energy sold to the grid will bring additional income, totaling over ₹13 lakh annually for the village.
Dhordo joins Modhera, Sukhi, and Masali as Gujarat’s fourth solar village, reinforcing the state’s leadership in renewable energy. Local Sarpanch Miyan Hussain credited both state and central leadership for making Dhordo a model of sustainability, rural empowerment, and green living.
