Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University Pays Glowing Tribute to Sant Sevalal Maharaj

Hyderabad, February 15, 2025 – Sri Santh Sevalal Maharaj Jayanthi Celebrations at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) honored the legendary spiritual leader and social reformer of the Banjara community. The event witnessed the participation of distinguished guests, faculty members, and students, all coming together to pay homage to Sant Sevalal Maharaj’s enduring contributions to social justice, equality, and cultural preservation.

Leaders Recall Sevalal Maharaj’s Legacy

Delivering the keynote address, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani highlighted Sant Sevalal Maharaj’s pivotal role in safeguarding the Banjara community and the environment. He emphasized that though no written records from Sevalal Maharaj’s time exist, his legacy continues to inspire generations.

Prof. Surya Dhananjay, Vice-Chancellor of Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Women’s University, shared her personal journey, recalling the challenges she faced in her tanda (hamlet) while pursuing education. She credited Prof. Ghanta Chakrapani for his guidance and expressed gratitude to Ramana Naik and Dharma Naik, whom she considers her brothers. Her speech reinforced the importance of education and empowerment, which aligns with Sant Sevalal Maharaj’s vision for the Banjara people.

Dr. L. V. K. Reddy, Registrar, lauded Sevalal Maharaj as a pioneer of social reform, urging the community to continue his fight for justice, equality, and dignity.

Presiding Officer Prof. Pushpa Chakrapani and Dr. Banothu Dharma, Liaison Officer (SC/ST Cell), also paid tribute to Sevalal Maharaj’s commitment to social welfare. They called upon younger generations to embrace his ideals of self-reliance, environmental protection, and women’s empowerment.

Adding to the significance of the occasion,  including journalist Shashank, advocates Sivanand, Srinivas  , Ramakrishna, and social reformers Lahari, Prem Kumar, and Vijay attended the event, extending their respects to Sant Sevalal Maharaj’s legacy.
