Hyderabad:This summer, if you waste water, you will be penalized around Rs. 5,000. Instructions, similar to Bengalurub, were released that forbade the use of residential water supply for any other purpose under the HMWSSB Act, 1989. However, the Water Board assures that there would be sufficient stock to meet Hyderabad’s drinking water demand.
The use of drinking water is barred for commercial or industrial use, fountains, gardening, construction, and animal rearing, along with diverting it to hotels, swimming baths, and others. In addition to that, bringing into effect Section 38 of the Act, every owner will have to maintain the pipeline and meter to prevent water from running to waste.
The recommendations have been communicated to all Chief General Managers and General Managers of the HMWS&SB. Customers who violate them may face penalties under the Act, which include financial fines or having their water supply disconnected.
Additionally, to create awareness, some 18 NGOs have been enlisted to run water conservation awareness campaigns. The board also guaranteed that tankers would provide a supplemental water supply at a reasonable cost. With plans to purchase an additional 70 micro tankers with a 2.5 KL capacity, the Water Board is acquiring an extra 100 tankers with a 5 KL capacity.
