First Post-Monsoon Low Pressure Forms Over Bay of Bengal, Heavy Rainfall Expected in Andhra Pradesh

Visakhapatnam, October 22: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported the formation of the first low-pressure area over the southwest Bay of Bengal on Tuesday morning, marking the beginning of the post-monsoon weather activity in the region.

According to IMD forecasts, the system is expected to move west-northwestwards and gradually intensify into a depression over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal within the next 36 hours. Meteorologists have cautioned that the developing system could bring widespread rainfall to several parts of Andhra Pradesh, particularly along the coastal districts.

Heavy Rainfall Warning

The weather department has issued a heavy rainfall alert for coastal Andhra Pradesh and nearby areas. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea due to likely strong winds and rough sea conditions. The system is also expected to bring gusty winds and moderate to heavy rainfall across Visakhapatnam, East Godavari, and Krishna districts over the next few days.

Post-Monsoon Weather Activity Begins

This marks the first significant weather system after the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon. Post-monsoon low-pressure systems in the Bay of Bengal are known to bring substantial rainfall to southern India during October and November, contributing to the northeast monsoon season.

The IMD continues to monitor the system closely, and updates on its movement and intensity will be issued regularly. Residents in low-lying and coastal areas are advised to remain alert and follow official advisories.
