GHMC’s Basti Action Plan

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) established a weekly action plan to guarantee 100% door-to-door collection of MSW (municipal solid waste) and the removal of garbage vulnerable points (GVPs). All GHMC officials who are involved were given instructions by Commissioner Ronald Rose to carry out the weekly action plan in all the basti areas.

According to Ronald Rose, the weekly Basti Action Plan’s main goals are to do away with GVPs and guarantee 100% door-to-door collection of municipal solid waste. Approximately 1,631 meetings including Self Help Groups  (SHGs), Swachh Auto Tipper (SAT) vehicle drivers, and Slum Level Federation (SLF) members have been held in all basti locations in order to accomplish this goal.

Significant gaps in garbage collection have also been found in slum regions, with many throwing garbage wherever they want to. Of the 1,54,954 houses in all the basti zones, 1,97,891 were attached or tagged to SATs for rubbish collection under this initiative. Furthermore, 1,021 motivating programs and 921 rallies have been held, actively involving 5,798 residents.

In addition, 2,231 individuals participated in 1,064 rangoli programs, and 251 Town Vending Committee (TVC) meetings were held for houses not affiliated with or associated with SATs. As a result, 1,631 awareness workshops regarding the eradication of GVPs have been held, and the SHG employees have received recognition for their diligent efforts in this regard.
