New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has officially launched the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT), marking a major step in strengthening India’s GST framework. Designed to provide a uniform, transparent, and efficient appellate mechanism, GSTAT aims to simplify dispute resolution for taxpayers and boost confidence in the GST system.
The tribunal will feature a Principal Bench in New Delhi and 31 State Benches across 45 locations, each comprising judicial and technical members to ensure fairness and balance. This reflects India’s spirit of cooperative federalism.
A key highlight is the launch of the GSTAT e-Courts Portal, offering e-filing, digital hearings, online case tracking, and user-friendly guides — making dispute resolution more accessible and technology-driven.
Taxpayers can file appeals until 30 June 2026, ensuring a smooth transition. By reducing litigation delays and ensuring consistency in rulings, GSTAT is expected to benefit MSMEs, exporters, and startups, while further strengthening India’s Ease of Doing Business and Make in India goals.
