Hyderabad Traffic Alert: Major Diversions Announced for Elevated Corridor Work Between Paradise Junction and Dairy Farm Road

By Shashank | Senior Correspondent

Hyderabad — The Hyderabad Traffic Police has issued a major traffic advisory ahead of the launch of construction work on the elevated corridor between Paradise Junction and Dairy Farm Road along National Highway 44 (NH-44). The restrictions will come into effect from October 30, 2025, and are expected to continue for about nine months.

The move is part of the Telangana Government’s infrastructure plan to ease long-standing congestion in the twin cities. Commuters using this route, particularly those traveling between Secunderabad, Bowenpally, and Begumpet, are advised to plan their travel accordingly.

What’s Happening

The new elevated corridor project, stretching nearly 5.4 kilometres, aims to decongest one of Hyderabad’s busiest stretches linking Paradise Junction, Balamrai, and Dairy Farm Road.

The project, handled by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), is estimated to cost around ₹650 crore. It includes an elevated section of over 3 km and a short underpass near Begumpet Airport, cleared by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). The overall construction timeline is set for 36 months, though the current traffic diversions cover the first nine months of heavy groundwork.

Road Closures

According to the official notification issued by Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D. Joel Davis, IPS, the following key closures will be implemented:

* The Rajiv Gandhi Statue Junction to Balamrai stretch will be closed in both directions for the duration of the works.

* The public is advised to avoid traveling between Balamrai and CTO Junction, as significant congestion is expected in and around nearby roads and intersections.

Alternate Routes

To reduce inconvenience, traffic police have arranged multiple diversions and alternative routes:

  1. From Balanagar to Panjagutta or Tank Bund: Tadbund – Mastan Café – Diamond Point – Mudford – NCC – JBS – SBI.
  2. From Suchitra to Panjagutta or Tank Bund: Safe Express – Left Turn – Bapuji Nagar – Centre Point – Diamond Point – Mudford – NCC – JBS – SBI.
  3. From Tank Bund, Rani Gunj, Panjagutta, Rasoolpura, or Plaza heading to Tadbund: Take a diversion at Rajiv Gandhi Statue Junction via Anna Nagar – Balamrai – Tadbund.
  4. Residents of Anna Nagar traveling towards Panjagutta or Tank Bund are advised to use internal lanes such as Meeting Point Lane, Hockey Ground Lane, or L&O Police Station Lane. Alternatively, they can use the Balamrai route.

Why the Diversion Matters

The stretch between Paradise Junction and Dairy Farm Road is one of the most congested corridors in Secunderabad, connecting major residential, defence, and commercial areas. With traffic from Suchitra, Bowenpally, and Begumpet converging daily, even minor construction causes gridlocks.

Officials say the elevated corridor will eventually provide a signal-free route connecting the northern suburbs with Hyderabad’s central areas, reducing travel time from the current 45–60 minutes to around 25–30 minutes.

What Citizens Should Do

Traffic police are urging the public to:

* Avoid the closed stretch between Rajiv Gandhi Statue Junction and Balamrai from October 30.

* Use the suggested alternate routes.

* Allow extra travel time during office hours.

* Call the traffic helpline (9010203626) for emergencies or urgent travel assistance.

Behind the Project

The elevated corridor is part of Telangana’s broader urban mobility improvement plan. HMDA has confirmed that approvals from the Defence Ministry and Airports Authority of India have been secured.

More than 4,000 trees are being translocated to facilitate the construction while minimizing environmental impact. The government has also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indian Army to manage portions of defence land falling within the project alignment.

In Summary

For the next nine months, Hyderabad commuters should expect longer travel times and heavy traffic in the Secunderabad region. Authorities have appealed for public cooperation, assuring that once completed, the corridor will significantly improve traffic flow and reduce congestion.

The elevated corridor between Paradise Junction and Dairy Farm Road represents another major step in Hyderabad’s transport modernization efforts—causing temporary inconvenience but promising lasting benefits.
