The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has launched the ICMR-SHINE (Science & Health Innovation for the Nextgen Explorers) Initiative, a first-of-its-kind nationwide outreach programme for school students from Classes 9 to 12. The move aligns with the Prime Minister’s One Day as a Scientist vision and honours the legacy of Prof. V. Ramalingaswami, a pioneer in Indian medical research.
Through simultaneous activities across all ICMR institutes, students engage in interactive sessions, laboratory visits, exhibitions, and hands-on games such as surveys and anthropometry. These experiences offer a glimpse into the daily work of scientists and the life-saving role of public health research.
The initiative aims to spark curiosity, build scientific temper, and inspire careers in biomedical research—strengthening India’s future in health innovation. By connecting young minds with experts, ICMR-SHINE not only celebrates India’s research achievements but also invests in the scientists of tomorrow.
