In a major stride toward enhancing nutrition-based agri-exports, India has shipped 20 metric tonnes (MT) of fortified rice from Chhattisgarh to Papua New Guinea (PNG). Facilitated by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), this marks a key milestone in India’s mission to boost global food and nutritional security through value-added exports.
What is Fortified Rice?
Fortified rice is enriched with essential micronutrients such as Iron, Folic Acid, and Vitamin B12, produced by blending and extruding rice flour into fortified kernels that resemble natural grains. When mixed with regular rice, it helps combat malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies — especially among vulnerable populations.
