India Inaugurates First Tempered Glass Manufacturing Facility in Noida

India has taken a major leap toward electronics self-reliance with the inauguration of its first-ever Tempered Glass Manufacturing Facility for mobile devices in Noida. The factory, established by Optiemus Electronics in collaboration with Corning Incorporated (USA), was inaugurated on August 30, 2025, by Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

The facility will produce premium “Engineered by Corning” tempered glass for both Indian and global markets, reducing import dependence and boosting the Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat missions.

Currently set up with an investment of ₹70 crore, the plant has a Phase 1 capacity of 25 million units annually and will employ 600 people. A Phase 2 expansion worth ₹800 crore is planned, which will scale production to 200 million units per year and create over 4,500 jobs.

Equipped with world-class infrastructure, the plant follows a complete process—from scribing and polishing to chemical tempering and lamination—ensuring BIS-certified, globally competitive products.

This milestone strengthens India’s vision of becoming a global electronics hub by manufacturing every critical component of mobile devices domestically.
