India-Japan Energy Dialogue 2025: Advancing Clean Energy & Climate Cooperation

India and Japan have reaffirmed their commitment to clean energy collaboration through the India-Japan Energy Dialogue 2025, co-chaired virtually by Shri Manohar Lal, Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs (India), and Mr. Muto Yoji, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry (Japan).

The dialogue highlighted energy security, the clean energy transition, and climate change mitigation as core areas of cooperation.

Key Highlights

  • Institutional Collaboration: Ongoing work through the India-Japan Energy Dialogue and multiple Joint Working Groups across power, renewables, petroleum, and coal sectors.
  • Clean Energy Progress: Advances in energy efficiency, clean hydrogen, ammonia-based fuels, and renewable expansion (solar and wind).
  • Emerging Focus Areas: Joint efforts on carbon capture (CCUS), green chemicals, biofuels, energy storage, and smart grids.

The partnership aligns with both nations’ net-zero goals—Japan by 2050 and India by 2070—while supporting the Paris Agreement commitments. Combining Japan’s innovation with India’s vast clean energy market, the cooperation will drive sustainable growth, energy resilience, and Indo-Pacific stability.
