India Launches Health Campaign to Expose Hidden Dangers in Popular Snacks

The Health Ministry of India has launched a new awareness campaign to educate the public about the hidden sugars, fats, and trans fats in popular Indian snacks. Starting with a pilot project at AIIMS Nagpur, the initiative uses visual posters placed near food stalls to display the nutritional content of items like samosas, biscuits, and jalebis. The posters aim to encourage moderation and healthier choices without discouraging traditional eating habits.

The campaign also promotes workplace wellness by urging government departments to offer healthier food options, reduce sugary drinks, and encourage light physical activity during work hours. With India facing a rising tide of obesity and lifestyle-related diseases, this initiative seeks to “nudge” people toward better eating habits in a simple yet effective way.
