India and Mongolia Mark 70 Years of Diplomatic Ties with Major Agreements and Cultural Milestones

On October 14, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa held high-level talks in New Delhi, celebrating 70 years of diplomatic relations and 10 years of strategic partnership between India and Mongolia. The visit reaffirmed the deep civilizational, spiritual, and strategic bonds shared by the two nations.

Key Highlights of the Visit

  • 10 MoUs Signed: Covering areas such as humanitarian aid, heritage restoration, immigration cooperation, mineral exploration, cooperatives, and digital governance.
  • Energy Partnership: India reiterated support for Mongolia’s $1.7 billion oil refinery project, expected to process 5 million metric tons of crude annually by 2028, boosting Mongolia’s energy independence.
  • Digital and Educational Cooperation: India will digitise one million ancient Mongolian manuscripts and send a Sanskrit teacher to the Gandan Monastery, strengthening academic and spiritual ties.
  • Cultural Diplomacy: Free e-visas for Mongolian citizens, annual youth exchanges, and plans to send holy relics of Arahants Sariputra and Maudgalyayana in 2026.
  • Global Cooperation: Mongolia reaffirmed its support for India’s permanent UNSC membership and joined the International Big Cat Alliance, deepening environmental and defence collaboration.

The visit underscored India and Mongolia’s shared commitment to heritage, sustainability, and strategic growth, reflecting a partnership rooted in history and aimed at a green, connected future.
