India has achieved a historic milestone in agriculture, recording 357 million tonnes of foodgrain production in 2025—the highest ever in the nation’s history. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the achievement during the 128th edition of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on November 30, calling it a testament to India’s growing self-sufficiency and resilient farm sector.
A Decade of Strong Agricultural Growth
In the past ten years, India’s foodgrain output has jumped from 257 million tonnes in 2015 to 357 million tonnes in 2025, marking nearly 40% growth. This progress has been powered by improved irrigation, advanced seed varieties, modern machinery, and direct farmer-support schemes.
PM Modi highlighted the role of initiatives such as PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi, soil health cards, and increased digital access in accelerating this agricultural transformation.
Rising Momentum in Natural Farming
The Prime Minister also emphasised India’s shift toward natural and chemical-free farming. He referenced his recent visit to the South India Natural Farming Summit (Nov 19–21) in Coimbatore, which showcased eco-friendly agricultural models, indigenous technologies, and innovations by farmer-producer organisations.
PM Modi praised the growing involvement of educated youth in sustainable farming, describing it as a positive trend for India’s future food security.
Farmer Engagement and Government Support
During the Natural Farming Exhibition, PM Modi interacted with farmers, reviewed organic practices, and observed demonstrations of regenerative farming. He reiterated that natural farming not only supports environmental health but also improves long-term farm income.
On November 19, the government released the 21st instalment of PM-Kisan, further strengthening financial support for farmers across the country.
