Karnataka Leads Namo Drone Didi Yojana, Training Women SHGs as Drone Pilots

Karnataka has emerged as the leading state in training women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) as drone pilots under the Namo Drone Didi Yojana, marking a major milestone in women’s empowerment and technology-driven agriculture.

Under the scheme, rural women are being equipped with advanced drone piloting skills to provide agricultural services such as spraying fertilisers and pesticides. This not only reduces manual labour and input costs for farmers but also promotes precision farming, improving efficiency and crop productivity. By enabling SHGs to offer drone services on a rental basis, the initiative creates sustainable livelihood opportunities for women in rural areas.

The programme aligns with India’s broader push towards digital inclusion and modernisation of agriculture. Karnataka’s strong performance reflects effective implementation, training support, and institutional coordination, making it a model for other states. Overall, the Namo Drone Didi Yojana is transforming rural women into skilled agri-tech entrepreneurs while accelerating the adoption of modern farming practices across the country.
