Kerala is understood for its herbal splendor, excessive literacy price, cleanliness and feel of network. But did you know that Kerala has the very best range of twins inside the international
In Kerala’s Mallappuram district is Kodinhi, also referred to as a twin town. At least 400 sets of twins have been born in the community, which has only 2000 families, making it notable for its childbirth phenomena.
On an average India has 9 twins per 1000 births, whereas in this town it is a whopping 45 per 1000 births. Globally the number of twin deliveries has increased especially in the western world due to artificial insemination but natural twin births are very rare in the world, not in this town.
Apparentaly the rate of twin deliveries is increasing every year in the village. Locals say the strange phenomenon can be attributed to the miraculous properties of water in this region. However it has not been substantiated, and has experts from around the world scratching their heads. It is a mystery if the phenomenon will ever be unraveled but it has rightfully made the village ‘God’s own twin town’.
Though this seems to be a very fascinating story it is not unusual for the locals. There have been cases of twin or multiple births in the village for generations. A walk down the streets in this village might be very confusing to non locals as one can spot twins every where they look.
Residents of this town hope for some monetary help from the government as it takes a toll on the parents financially. An association called ‘TAKA’ which stands for Twins and Kin association takes up on itself to support the families. If this intrigues you, make sure to visit this small yet mysterious village next time you are in Kerala.
