Know what can and cannot be done before polls

Hyderabad: Around 72 hours before polls, certain rules go into effect to ensure transparent elections. Public need to be sensitized on that and understand what is allowed and what is not.

For starters, all defacement will be removed after the end election campaign of the political parties and candidates within the 100m radius from the polling booths. Critical Polling stations will be fitted with outside CCTV cameras and all polling stations will be fitted with cameras for web casting on poll day.

Areas Of Special Focus:

  • Disbursement of funds to SHGs and NGOs is being monitored.
  • Checking distribution of gift items/free serving of food in Marriage/ Community Halls etc. to influence the electors.
  • The use of Marriage Halls/ Community Halls and similar places is being kept under watch by the district electoral machinery and checking during last 72 hours and see that no fake party is being organized for influencing the voters is being intensified.

Gatherings at guest houses and dharamshalas is kept under vigil during the last 72 hours to ensure that these are not used by political parties or candidates to influence voters in any manner.

Special Efforts To Curb Misuse Of Money Power:

  • During the last 72 hours, a close tracking should be made by each and every Thana officer of payments and other forms of inducement to voter. The field level election machinery/police administration should work as a team to track such types of malpractices.
  • Checking at the inter-State border and commercial tax check post being done for tracking such transportation of liquor and other inducements. Whenever a consignment of such liquor is intercepted, proper investigation should follow to trace the origin of such supply and the destination.
  • A close watch will be made on the vehicles used by persons accompanying the contesting candidates and their party’s leaders for any possible mischief, including criminal activities like carrying of illegal arms and weapons.
  • Coordination is being done with mobile/telephone service providers, electricity departments, public works department for providing uninterrupted services during poll days.

Last 48 hours:

  • No Use of Bulk SMS/Voice Message in political campaigning.
  • No loudspeaker shall be permitted
  • After the closure of campaign period, no campaign can take place within the constituency, presence of political functionary’s/party workers/procession functionaries/ campaign-functionaries etc., who have been brought from outside the constituency and who are not voters of his/her constituency, should not continue to remain present in the constituency as their continued presence after campaign ends may undermine the atmosphere for free and fair poll.
