Made in India Label Scheme: Boosting Domestic Manufacturing and Product Identity

The Government of India has introduced the Made in India Label Scheme to promote domestic manufacturing and strengthen the identity of Indian products. With a proposed budget of ₹995 crore for three years, the initiative aims to build trust, brand reputation, and global recognition for Indian-made goods.

Led by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) in collaboration with the Quality Council of India and the India Brand Equity Foundation, the scheme is a voluntary certification that ensures authenticity and quality. Products certified under the scheme will display a logo and QR code, providing details such as place of manufacturing and validity of the label.

The scheme seeks to:

  • Certify products substantially manufactured or assembled in India.
  • Support recognition of Indian products in domestic and global markets.
  • Guarantee quality, authenticity, and competitive positioning.

By offering a distinct identity to Indian-origin products, the Made in India Label Scheme will enhance consumer trust and boost the country’s manufacturing ecosystem.
