Nellore’s Struggle With Bird Flu Outbreak: An Urgent Public Health Crisis
The Nellore district government are actively responding to a scourge of avian influenza (chook flu), which has led to numerous bird fatalities inside the area. After accomplishing assessments on samples despatched to the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases (NIHSAD) in Bhopal, it has been showed that bird flu is the cause of dying.
The outbreak has been in particular identified in places: Chatagatla village in Podalakur mandal and Gummalladibba in Kovur mandal. In response, the district has applied a ban on the sale and ownership of chickens inside a 10 km radius of those villages for a duration of 3 days, and a greater extended ban of 3 months inside a 1 km radius. Furthermore, Mr. Narayanan has directed the District Panchayat Officer and the Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer to visit the impacted villages to maintain ‘gram sabhas’ aimed at elevating cognizance about chook flu and its prevention.
