The National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) has signed significant agreements with UNICEF India, Tata Motors, and the Ex-Navodayan Foundation to enhance the education, life skills, and job training of over 1.3 lakh tribal students across India. These students study at Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs), and the new initiatives aim to provide them with better opportunities for the future.
Key Initiatives:
- TALASH (Tribal Aptitude, Life Skills and Self-Esteem Hub): In partnership with UNICEF, TALASH helps students identify their strengths and choose the right career path. The platform provides career counseling, life skills training, and job suggestions based on special tests.
- Job Training with Tata Motors: Through a five-year partnership, Tata Motors will offer a “Learn and Earn” program for EMRS Class 12 graduates, providing them with engineering diplomas and work experience. Students also receive a monthly stipend and other benefits, with the promise of job placement.
- Coaching for Competitive Exams: Special coaching centers for top science students will be set up in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh to prepare them for IIT-JEE, NEET, and other competitive exams. Online coaching will be available for other students.
These efforts reflect the government’s commitment to improving tribal education and building future leaders. By 2025, the TALASH program will reach all 28 states and 8 union territories, creating more opportunities for tribal youth across the nation.
