NHAI Launches QR Code-Enabled Sign Boards to Improve Transparency and Road Safety on Highways

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has launched QR code-enabled Project Information Sign Boards across national highways to promote transparency, convenience, and safety for commuters.

These innovative boards feature vertical QR codes that can be scanned using smartphones to access detailed project data — including highway numbers, construction timelines, and contact information for key officials such as the Highway Patrol and Project Manager.

To strengthen road safety, the emergency helpline 1033 is clearly displayed, offering quick access to assistance. The QR codes also share real-time updates on nearby facilities like hospitals, petrol pumps, toilets, restaurants, and EV charging stations — helping travelers plan their routes better.

NHAI will install these sign boards at toll plazas, rest areas, truck lay-byes, and highway start and end points for maximum visibility. This initiative not only enhances commuter experience but also marks another step in India’s journey toward smart and digital road infrastructure.
