Hyderabad: City dwellers chose to retain their Lok Sabha representatives with both Asaduddin Owaisi of AIMIM and G Kishan Reddy of BJP winning their respective Hyderabad and Secunderabad parliament seats.
In what can be described as a counting day deja vu, the trends remained similar to the Lok Sabha Polls in 2019. Interestingly, in the recent assembly elections as well, Hyderabadis placed their trust in the incumbents.
While BJP’s Madhavi Latha Kompella seemed to give a tough fight to the AIMIM President in the initial rounds, by noon, the latter established a strong lead which continued till the latest rounds of counting. Owaisi registered a comfortable win with 6.61 lakh votes, while the BJP candidate recorded only 3.23 lakh votes.
While the Secunderabad MP did not manage to win with as much margin as his Hyderabad counterpart, he secured around 50,000 votes more than Congress candidate Danam Nagendra. In total, Reddy won 4.73 lakh votes.
With significant margins established between the eighth to tenth rounds of counting, the result was obvious to both the party workers and the common public even before the counting concluded. Both the incumbents received their certificates of election from Returning Officers.
