The authorities in Hyderabad have increased the number of check posts and inspections on the roads ahead of the forthcoming parliamentary elections, which are in less than a month. Along with the illicit transfer of alcohol, attention is also being devoted to valuables that might be utilized to sway the outcome of the election.
The cops are filming every check, and they are stopping anyone carrying more than Rs. 50,000 in cash without a legitimate form of identification. Special squads like the Flying Squads and Static Surveillance squads (SSTs) are in action in addition to the police officers.
Since the poll code was announced, enforcement officers had seized Rs. 13,33,19,960 in cash and other goods worth Rs.1,87,98,039 along with 19,902.7 liters of illegal liquor. Of this, flying squad teams have collected Rs. 2,89,76,740, Rs.10,27,63,530 by Police and IT Department, and Rs.15,79,690 by SST teams.
Cases have been registered against 153 people and 148 have been arrested. While 312 complaints about election-related cash and other items were resolved, FIRs were registered against 205 people. Moreover, 2,541 licensed firearms were also deposited in police stations and armories.
