Hyderabad: Cheques totaling Rs. 11 crore bounced out of the Rs. 1,921 crore property tax received for the fiscal year 2023–24, forcing GHMC to pursue legal action against taxpayers.
39 FIRs had been lodged in different police stations throughout the city as of April 16.
Thirteen cases—the most—were filed in Chandanagar. Yousufguda had eight, Jubilee Hills had five, Serilingampally, Quthbullapur, and Moosapet had four, and Kukatpally had one.
In a press release, GHMC Commissioner Ronald Rose urged taxpayers to settle the cheque bounce amount and forewarned of other formal complaints to be filed in the days ahead.
He also asked the citizens to pay up their arrears and take advantage of the Early Bird Scheme, which offers a 5% current-year property tax credit. The program closes on April 30 and was started observing the previous years’ success. This offer is only for the property tax of the current financial year and not for the arrears accumulating from previous years.
