Putin’s India Visit to Strengthen Defence, Energy and Strategic Ties

Russian President Vladimir Putin will arrive in India on 4 December for a two-day state visit aimed at reinforcing long-standing strategic cooperation with New Delhi. The annual summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to deepen collaboration across defence, energy and key global issues, marking a new phase in the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the leaders will review ongoing bilateral projects and outline future priorities, with discussions expected to touch on major regional and international developments. Defence cooperation will be a central focus, with India considering the procurement of additional S-400 missile systems—an advanced air defence platform crucial to the country’s strategic planning.

Energy will form another major pillar of the talks. India and Russia continue strengthening engagement in hydrocarbons and nuclear power despite global geopolitical shifts and Western sanctions on Moscow. The summit is also expected to produce a joint statement and a series of business and interdepartmental agreements, further expanding economic ties.

Putin’s visit comes at a critical time, reaffirming the resilience of India-Russia relations and the commitment of both nations to broadening cooperation across priority sectors.
