Hyderabad – In a significant step towards empowering young girls, the Rotary Club of Hyderabad Midtown has donated bicycles to students of Sarojini Naidu Vanita Maha Vidyalaya, located at Exhibition Grounds, Nampally, Hyderabad. The initiative, aimed at promoting self-reliance and physical fitness among female students, was carried out as part of Rotary’s ongoing Girl Child Empowerment program.
The college, which provides boarding facilities for girls from rural backgrounds, welcomed this contribution as an opportunity for students to learn bicycle riding, ensuring greater mobility and independence.
Expressing her gratitude, College Principal Dr. Shobana lauded the efforts of Rotary Club of Hyderabad Midtown President Rotarian Amardeep Singh and Secretary Hajira, acknowledging the positive impact this initiative will have on the students. She emphasized that the bicycles would be put to good use, benefiting students regularly.
During his address, Club President Rtn. Amardeep Singh highlighted Rotary International’s global contributions, including the eradication of polio and various social welfare initiatives. He stressed the importance of increased female participation in corporate and business sectors for India’s development, and described learning to ride a bicycle as a small but crucial step toward that goal. He further emphasized the fitness benefits and confidence-building aspects of cycling.
Adding to the event’s significance, guest speaker and founder of Hyderabad Cyclist Group, Mr. Ravinder Nandanoori, shared insights on the health and environmental advantages of cycling. He also spoke about his remarkable achievement of covering the 3,800 km journey from Kashmir to Kanyakumari three times on a bicycle, inspiring students with his determination. Mr. Ravinder also provided safety tips for cycling, after which students enthusiastically chanted the slogan “Fit India, Healthy India.”
The event was coordinated by Club Secretary Rotarian Hajira Adeeb, who extended her appreciation to the college management for facilitating this outreach. She commended the students for their enthusiasm and commitment to learning how to ride a bicycle.
Among those present at the event were College Vice Principal Dr. Subba Rao, faculty member Mrs. Malthi, and Rotary Club member Rtn. Rinesh. The initiative marks yet another milestone in Rotary Club of Hyderabad Midtown’s mission to uplift and empower young girls through education and mobility.
