SECL Inaugurates Coal India’s First All-Women Central Store Unit in Korba

October 5, 2025 | Korba, Chhattisgarh:
In a landmark step toward women-led industrial empowerment, South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) — a subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL) — inaugurated its first fully women-operated Central Store Unit at its Central Workshop in Korba. The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s vision of “Nari Shakti se Rashtra Shakti” under Special Campaign 5.0, promoting inclusivity, innovation, and good governance.

The new unit manages spare parts supply, logistics, and inventory operations — entirely led by an eight-member women team under Ms. Sapna Ikka, Senior Manager (E&M) and IIT (ISM) Dhanbad alumna. This milestone follows SECL’s earlier success of launching Coal India’s first all-women-operated dispensary in Bilaspur, reaffirming its commitment to gender inclusivity in technical sectors.

Equipped with a modern SAP-based digital system, the store enables real-time inventory tracking, transparency, and automated auditing — improving operational efficiency and accountability.

This initiative marks a paradigm shift in India’s industrial landscape, showcasing women’s growing role in mining and logistics — traditionally male-dominated fields. It also supports national missions like Atmanirbhar Bharat, Mission Karmayogi, and Viksit Bharat @2047, strengthening diversity and innovation within public sector enterprises.
