Google-owned YouTube has revealed that Simsim, a live social commerce platform, is winding down less than two years after it was purchased. TechCrunch reports that in the middle of 2021, the major streaming service bought the Indian company Simsim.
Amit Bagaria, Kunal Suri, and Saurabh Vashishtha established Simsim in 2019. It helped small companies convert to e-commerce with influencer-based videos in Hindi, Tamil, and Bengali.
Viewers can purchase the products immediately through the app after seeing creators’ video reviews of goods from nearby shops. Simsim was purchased by YouTube in a deal that valued the business at around 70 million, according to the report.
When the deal was announced, YouTube said it will be able to help Indian shops and small companies reach new customers in even more effective ways. Furthermore, the source stated that YouTube was looking for ways to grow into e-commerce around the time Simsim was purchased.
The song and album credits for YouTube Music, the company’s music streaming service, are now being added. Users will be able to see song and album credits with the help of this new feature while enjoying their favourite music.
Some other streaming sites, including Tidal, have long offered the option where users can view full song information, including the performer and the writers, producers, and composers of each track.
