Arunachal Pradesh to Host First Sunrise Festival at Dong Village

Arunachal Pradesh will host its first-ever Sunrise Festival from 29 December 2025 to 2 January 2026 in Dong village, Anjaw district—the easternmost village of India that receives the country’s first rays of the sun.

Situated at 1,240 metres near the tri-junction of India, China, and Myanmar, Dong offers breathtaking views and a rich tribal culture. The five-day festival will feature ethnic cuisine, adventure sports, eco-tourism activities, and cultural showcases of local traditions.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu announced the festival as part of efforts to boost tourism and highlight the unique charm of Arunachal Pradesh. Improved air connectivity under the UDAN scheme has made the region more accessible, ensuring greater tourist inflow.

Beyond tourism, the event also carries strategic importance due to Dong’s border location, while creating new economic opportunities for local communities. The Sunrise Festival is set to position Arunachal Pradesh as a leading destination for cultural and eco-tourism in India’s Northeast.
