Hyderabad: Water tankers in the city will be delivered within 24 hours of the booking, stated a HMWS&SB press statement on Saturday. The tanker delivery time ranged from two to three days at the start of the summer season, due to the substantially growth in demand.
In February, the number of booking increased, especially from areas that were dependent on bore wells. Over 2.37 lakh tanker trips were completed by April 30. In some areas, there were more than 30,000 people who depended on tankers.
Along with increasing the number of tankers by buying and hiring vehicles, authorities also increased filling stations and water filling points at division level, to mitigate the wait time for tankers.
Moreover, additional staff were also hired and some drivers were arranged from GHMC, so that tankers can be delivered round-the-clock in three shifts. Special officers were also appointed to monitor the tankers and a Tanker Management Cell was set up to resolve any issues.
To enhance efficiency, tankers are being tracked through an app that will keep track of the orders, delivery and the real-time location of the vehicles.
Emergency pumping was also started with 10 pumps in Nagarjuna Sagar Reservoir on April 20 to solve the problem that arose in summer as per the directives of the state government. According to the need, arrangements have been made for emergency pumping from Yellampally reservoir as well.
Due to high demand, the water board has supplied extra water to Hyderabad city compared to last year. This summer, 580 MGD of water was supplied. Compared to last year, 20 MGD of additional water was supplied to the city residents, the highest supply so far.
Meanwhile, HMWS&SB MD Sudarshan Reddy also held a meeting to review monsoon arrangements. He asked officials to ensure the availability of airtech machines and silt cart vehicles and begin field visits from next week.
