Hyderabad: Medical graduates and healthcare professionals in Telangana have urged the state government to increase local reservation for postgraduate (PG) medical seats from 50% to 85–90%, aligning with Andhra Pradesh’s model. They argue that students who completed their MBBS in Telangana and contributed to the state’s healthcare system deserve higher priority in PG admissions.
The Healthcare Reforms Association highlighted that the current 50% quota is insufficient, forcing Telangana MBBS graduates to compete with candidates from across India, limiting opportunities for local students to pursue advanced medical education within the state.
This demand follows Andhra Pradesh’s implementation of GO 102 in 2023, which reserves over 90% of PG seats for local candidates. Of the 393 PG seats in Andhra’s private medical colleges, 357 were allocated to locals, leaving just 36 for open competition. Telangana’s medical community now calls for a similar policy to support local students and strengthen the state’s healthcare ecosystem.
