Compulsory holidays declared: Telangana prepares for assembly polls with stringent voter certification rules and advanced security measures.
Ts elections,scheduled to be held on 30 November 2023. The elections, considered crucial for the political future of the state, , as the counting will take place on 3 December.
Voters are required to show their Electors’ Shadow Identification Card (EPIC) or one of several other acceptable documents.
The list includes: Aadhaar card, MGNREGA business card, photo bank or postal passport, health insurance smart card, driving license, PAN card, passport, photo pension cards, service proof documents, government certificates, special disabilities and ID. It is important to note that e-EPIC and voter information forms can only be used as guidelines and cannot be used as proof of identity at the polling station.
To further ensure the voter turnout, the Election Commission has declared November 30 as a compulsory holiday for all companies in Telangana. The decision is in response to earlier complaints that private sector, including IT companies, were not given leave during the 2018 Telangana Assembly elections and the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The commission has directed the Telangana state administrator to take action against those institutions which do not grant holidays on election day.
