UIDAI Unveils New Aadhaar App: A Step Towards Secure and Paperless Digital Identity

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced its new Aadhaar mobile application, now available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store under an early access program. Designed to offer a more secure, convenient, and paperless Aadhaar experience, the app allows residents to carry and verify their identity digitally with greater control and privacy.

Key Features of the New Aadhaar App

The app introduces several modern functionalities:

  • Digital Aadhaar Sharing: Users can share Aadhaar via QR code or verifiable credentials without presenting a physical card.
  • Masked Aadhaar: Only limited digits of the Aadhaar number are displayed, ensuring better privacy during verification.
  • Multiple Profiles: Up to five Aadhaar profiles can be added on one device if linked to the same mobile number—useful for families.
  • Biometric Lock/Unlock: Users can lock or unlock biometric authentication anytime to prevent unauthorized use.

Easy Setup and User Control

Residents can download the app, verify their Aadhaar using OTP and face/fingerprint authentication, and secure their profile with a 6-digit PIN. The app interfaces enable users to view Aadhaar details, share secure QR codes, and manage biometric settings effortlessly.

A Step Toward a Paperless Identity Ecosystem

The app aims to simplify Aadhaar-based verification for banking, education, travel documents, and more—reducing paperwork and enhancing data security. UIDAI highlighted that the app “reimagines how residents engage with their identity,” providing portability, privacy, and user autonomy.

Early Access Feedback Phase

UIDAI has invited users to test the app and provide feedback through the app itself or via email. Insights from early users will help refine the application before its full nationwide rollout.
