Hyderabad: Voters in the Nagarkurnool constituency have reportedly staged protests outside the polling booths demanding power supply and roads.
Polling booth number 179 in Mylaram of Balmur mandal was one of the locations where voters staged protests and refrained from voting. The demand was also that the government stop mining activity in the area, and threatened no voting unless action was taken.
Despite officials tried to convince the voters, they did not pay attention to them. With voters staying away from voting, the polling staff and agents had to sit idle for almost entire day. Till last reports came in, hardly five to 10 votes were polled in the booth, according to reports.
Similarly, voters in Chenchu colony under Kollapur mandal also staged protests over lack of power supply, road connectivity and other amenities. With voters failing to turn up at the polling booths, officials had to in turn approach them and appeal to cast their vote.
However, they demanded that unless power supply was restored in their area, they would not vote. After the officials raised the issue with electricity department, power was restored and then voters turned up at the polling booths, reports said.
Meanwhile, power supply was disrupted at polling stations causing inconvenience to polling staff who depended on torch lights and candles to make preparations in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district.
Polling for Khammam and Mahabubabad Lok Sabha seats passed off peacefully in erstwhile Khammam district on Monday but however, officials had to convince voters to cast their votes as polling was boycotted by villagers at some places.
