Wine dealers seek department intervention

Hyderabad: The Telangana Wine Dealers Association has sent a letter to the Prohibition & Excise Department and has asked them to take immediate measures to remedy the current deficiency of beer and liquor.

In a petition to the Commissioner, Prohibition & Excise, the association said, “the critical issue of liquor and beer supply shortages across Telangana, particularly impacting retailers. Since March 2024, the supply of stocks to our depots has been steadily declining, leading to a severe shortage throughout the state”.

Under the Lok Sabha Polls 2024 multiple bottles of alcohol has been seized. The beer sale’s recent growing demand, together with the summer’s extreme heat, has made the situation worse than better, because the demand is more than the supply.

“Despite inquiries with manufacturers, we have not received clear explanations for the irregular supply frequencies,” the association said.

As retailers, beer sales are their lifeline, especially during the months of April to June. The unavailability of favorite brands has brought business operations to a standstill and has incurred huge financial losses.

Besides that, the instalment of the license fee to be paid this month is the amount they were expecting to recover from beer sales. Nevertheless, the business has not been as good as we envisioned due to the shortage. The spokesperson on the behalf of our brewery kindly asked you to think about the issue of beer shortage as it is the first time we have to face it.

They asked the authorities to resolve this problem soon as possible because it is very important for the retailers who are experiencing a decline in sales due to the lack of beer in particular and liquor in general.
