World Asteroid Day 2025, observed on June 30, marks the 10th anniversary of this UN-recognized global event. It commemorates the 1908 Tunguska explosion and aims to raise awareness about asteroids, planetary defense, and space science.
This year’s theme — “A Decade of Global Action on Asteroid Safety and Science” — highlights 10 years of global cooperation in asteroid detection, deflection research, and public engagement.
Events include the Asteroid Day Festival in Luxembourg (June 26–28), educational livestreams, astronomy nights, and outreach programs to schools and science centers worldwide.
Asteroids—rocky bodies mainly located between Mars and Jupiter—help scientists understand the origins of the solar system. Efforts like NASA’s DART and ESA’s Hera mission show growing global capability to prevent future collisions.
With increasing space missions and growing public interest, Asteroid Day 2025 continues to unite experts and citizens in protecting Earth through knowledge and innovation.
