World Population Day 2025: Investing in People, Planet and Prosperity

World Population Day, observed annually on July 11 since 1989, was established by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to raise awareness about global population issues.

In 2025, the focus is on “Investing in Data and Rights for People, Planet and Prosperity.” This theme emphasizes the urgent need for inclusive policies, gender-responsive planning, and rights-based population strategies in the face of widening demographic disparities across the globe.

As nations face challenges from aging populations, youth bulges, migration, and inequality, this year’s World Population Day urges governments and organizations to prioritize accurate data collection and human rights to build a sustainable, equitable future for all.
