Night of the Deluge: Swift Rescue Ops in Hyderabad’s Flooded Sindhi Colony

As torrential monsoon rains lashed Hyderabad on Friday, the city witnessed one of its most dramatic rescue efforts in recent memory. Begumpet’s Sindhi Colony, particularly Pender Ghast 2 Street, was submerged under waist-deep water, forcing emergency services to launch an urgent evacuation operation.

With darkness setting in and floodwaters rising fast, rescue teams braved treacherous conditions to reach stranded residents. Equipped with life jackets, helmets, ropes, and an inflatable boat, the personnel navigated the waterlogged lanes to bring families to safety. The operation, unfolding under torch light and heavy rain, underscored both the severity of the flooding and the resilience of the responders.

Local authorities, including GHMC officials, Hyderabad police, and citizen volunteers, coordinated efforts to manage the crisis. Appeals were issued asking residents to remain indoors and follow advisories issued by the disaster response cell.

The flooding, caused by relentless downpour throughout the day, crippled traffic and brought daily life to a halt in many low-lying pockets of the city. Temporary shelters were set up overnight for displaced families, and emergency helplines have been activated.

This incident once again draws attention to Hyderabad’s struggle with urban flooding a problem worsened by unplanned construction, inadequate drainage, and climate change. Experts and citizens alike are calling for urgent infrastructural upgrades and a more proactive monsoon preparedness strategy.

More rain is forecast over the next 48 hours. Citizens are advised to stay alert and rely only on verified government sources for updates.
