India Unveils Automotive Mission Plan 2047 to Become Global Auto Leader

The Government of India has launched the Automotive Mission Plan 2047 (AMP 2047) to position India as a global automotive hub by 2047, aligning with the broader Viksit Bharat @2047 vision. This strategic roadmap emphasizes innovation, sustainability, and global competitiveness, building on the earlier AMP 2016–2026 framework.

The plan includes milestones for 2030, 2037, and 2047, aiming to increase India’s share in global automotive trade, promote electric mobility, and support job creation. It is guided by seven expert committees comprising government officials, industry bodies like SIAM and ACMA, OEMs, academia, and policy think tanks.

Key features involve adoption of emerging technologies, development of EV infrastructure, and a focus on engineering excellence and skill development. Ministries such as Power, Transport, Petroleum, and Commerce are key stakeholders, ensuring a whole-of-government approach.

AMP 2047 aims to tackle infrastructure and technology challenges while boosting exports and sustainable manufacturing, ultimately transforming India into a global leader in the automotive sector.
